Abstract
Fiber optic systems are effecting a revolution in the long-haul transmission world. The architectural impact of the use of high-bandwidth fiber-optic backbones and digital cross-connect equipment changes the conventional perspective towards backbone and access-line design. In this paper, the value of a unique family of personal computer (PC) based network analysis and design tools to assist in these choices is illustrated. The US Department of Treasury´s voice and data requirements are used as the basis for a case study of the effect of these new products and services
