Abstract
Liquid Xe has a fast response (decay time of scintillation light: 2.2 ns, 22 ns and that of recombination light: 45 ns), and high scintillation yield which is comparable to that of NaI(Tl) crystal. These properties are considered to be suitable for position emission tomography (PET). We constructed a new PET detector using scintillation light from liquid Xe and measured energy resolution, position resolution and time resolution with plastic scintillator. The energy resolution, the position resolution and the time resolution were 30.0 %, 5.4 mm and 706 ps with one PMT, respectively.
