Abstract :
A comparison is made between wavelength routing and dynamic wavelength assignment in passive optical networks (PON), to determine quantitatively the benefits of the latter. A Gaussian approximation to the demand spread across a fibre to the cabinet PON is used, firstly to examine an ideal system with perfect reallocation and then to simulate a possible algorithm for wavelength allocation
