Abstract :
A new chipset architecture for client-side asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) modems is presented. A general purpose DSP core coupled with a small number of dedicated peripheral circuits is used to implement the demodulation and decoding algorithms. A single highly integrated analog chip and a few passive components complete the analog portion of the modem. Programmability provides flexibility for adapting to changing standards and customer requirements, even with modems already deployed to the field. High levels of integration achieve the affordability required for massive consumer deployment.
