Abstract
This paper addresses the topic of the reverse channel in cable TV networks-maximizing the capabilities of the upstream spectrum using advanced modulation and demodulation techniques. We provide an overview of the different modulation schemes that were proposed for the next generation cable modem upstream physical layer (also known as ´HI PHY´) in the IEEE 802.14 standardization committee and describe the solution that was finally chosen by the leading silicon vendors in the cable modem industry.
