  • Abstract
The influence of the lightning channel on the transient nonlinear behavior of ground systems is investigated. The analysis has been made combining a transmission line model of the lightning channel (assumed to be vertical with a cross-section exponentially contracted from ground to cloud) with a lumped nonlinear parameter model of ground systems (affected by possible ionization phenomena due to high impulsive currents). The proposed analysis leads to an easy estimation of fast potential transients on concentrated ground electrodes, struck directly by a thunderbolt
