Abstract
The reduced integration penalty method and the use of vector interpolation are two basically different new approaches for eliminating spurious finite element solutions of dielectric waveguides. Their computational performances are compared in terms of the convergence of the eigenvalues considering the mesh densities, computation times and storage demands, and highlighting their significant features
