Abstract
In some situations, the information about a device can only be obtained by measurements at its the terminals. In the case of linear systems, frequency domain measurements and subsequent system identification allows a practical way of obtaining models, which are directly compatible with EMTP-like simulation programs. The major challenges are pole identification, passivity enforcement, and accuracy of the resulting model. This paper gives an outline of approaches and challenges.
