Abstract :
This paper presents a reliable algorithm for OPF calculation with UPFC control needs. Different UPFC control pattern for different optimal power flow calculation needs was present and analyzed. In each control pattern, only one parameter of UPFC series component is introduced and in these cases the gradient based OPF algorithm has a good performance similar to the cases without UPFC control. UPFC steady state model under these control patterns is set up. A direct non-linear interior point method is employed to implement the OPF problem. The OPF problem with these UPFC control patterns is tested by examples with multiple UPFC devices. Combination cases were also studied. Results show the effectiveness of this method.
