Abstract :
The authors study the question of adequate workload characterization in the context of a PBX capacity modeling effort. In particular, they address the question of the accuracy which can be expected from such a study, if the `burstyness´ inherent in the calling process is ignored. Although the results obtained are somewhat sensitive to the processor software architecture, they assume an architecture that is simple and quite realistic for PBX systems of small and moderate size. State-of-the-art simulation and analytic tools are employed in this study
