Abstract
A recently developed technique is spatial modulation for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SM-OFDM). The spatial modulation is completely avoids the inter carrier interference (ICI) at the receiver side. Thus the receiver complexity of the SM-OFDM is less compare to the conventional OFDM system. Only the corresponding antenna will be transmitting power on that narrow band carrier at an instant of time while all other antennas are producing zero power on this particular narrow band carrier. Therefore, the peak to average power ration (PAPR) of the SM-OFDM is less than the conventional OFDM. Traditionally, modulated symbols are represented in constellation points in the amplitude and phase plane. The SM extends two dimensional to three dimensional, which employs the antenna indices to transmit information with high spectral efficiency and with low probability of error.
