Abstract
The propagation characteristics of short electric pulses on lossy, coupled microstrip lines is thoroughly investigated using full wave methods. It is shown that mode coupling is the main cause of pulse distortion, and that it can be controlled by appropriate choice of the substrate composition. The results obtained indicate the feasibility of VLSI circuits with high conductor density, keeping the crosstalk and distortion due to mode coupling under control
