Abstract
In this paper a method is proposed to calculate Air Quality Index (AQI) using Fuzzy Logic-based Model. The AQI, which is primarily a health-related index, can be used as a simple and generalized way to determine the air quality. In this study, the calculation of AQI is based only on suspended Particulate Matters of size less than 10µm (PM10) out of various atmospheric pollutants present in the atmosphere. The concentration of particulate matters is measured from ground based monitoring stations. AQI is represented by the following descriptor words to indicate health effects: “Good (0–50)”, “Moderate (51–100)”, “Unhealthy (101–150)”, “Very Unhealthy (151–200)” and “Hazardous (201–300)”. The AQI is also determined using conventional Linear Interpolation method to validate the obtained results of the proposed method.
