Abstract
In wireless sensor networks, an obstacle can be defined as a physical region without the functionality of sensing and communication. The presence of obstacle can be realized when the performance of routing the data degrades. Hence, obstacle detection mechanism finds an active area of research. In the existing Active RGP routing protocol, the presence of obstacle is detected using voronoi based triangulation algorithm. It is found that the process of obstacle detection is time consuming. In this paper, an Efficient Localized Voronoi [ELV] algorithm is proposed. It focuses on reducing the computation time involved in obstacle detection. Performance of the proposed ELV algorithm is analyzed in terms of computation time, energy consumption in the network and scalability. It is found that the proposed ELV algorithm reduces computation time when compared to the existing Active RGP routing protocol. The network energy utilization by the proposed ELV algorithm is reduced by 19%, in comparison with the existing Active RGP routing protocol.
