Abstract
The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) is an on-line University. The UOC offers student-centered learning. Therefore, the UOC supports continuous evaluation throughthe courses. Thanks to the continuous exercises, students receive feedback about their progress during the semester. However, the UOC has a high number of students. The correction of the exercises is manual, thus teachers have to dedicate too much time to correct them. In this scenario, the UOC proposes an automatic evaluation tool that allows the student to evaluate himself anytime and receive instant feedback. This tool is a web-based platform and it intends to provide with flexibility both to students, by allowing to test their skills at any given moment, and teachers, by reducing the workload of their correction and feedback tasks. It has to be noticed that this tool has been designed for engineering subjects. Therefore, this tool is prepared to work with math symbols and formulas. The automatic test assessment is based on latent semantic indexing techniques.
