Abstract
We study a simple high-gain type adaptive control scheme for surge stabilization in compression systems. We consider a typical configuration in which the throttle valve at the plenum exit is the actuator, while-the measured output is given by the total pressure at the compressor inlet. The system does not satisfy standard minimum-phase assumptions, nevertheless the proposed scheme turns out to be convergent to the desired equilibrium point. We finally validate the proposed controller by numerical simulation, using both a simplified model of the controlled system and a fifth order model, the latter being more realistic to describe some non-dominant fast dynamics often present in real compression systems
