Abstract
A description is given of the O&M (operation and maintenance) systems developed to cover the requirements for O&M centralization in evolution from an electromechanical exchanges network to a digital switching network (DSN) and to provide a complete telecommunication management network (TMN). The discussion covers the network configuration, O&M for digital exchanges, a hierarchical approach and functional distribution, protocols and transmission media, different O&M approaches, and network service center architecture.<>
