Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this paper, a brief overview of the history of thermal plasma modeling will be presented, including the effects of turbulence and deviations from local thermodynamic equilibrium in certain parts of thermal plasma systems. Based on some typical examples, the development over the past 60 years will be illustrated, restricted to high-intensity DC arcs, their electrode regions, and to plasma jets generated by such arcs.
