Abstract
Tuning behavior is discussed for self-tuning systems that are unstable in the frozen-parameter sense, but that appear stable while under excitation by signals that are well within the system bandwidth. G. Zames and N.A. Schneydor´s (1976) stability augmentation by dither and M. Saidane and O. Macchi´s (1987) time-domain explanation of self-stabilization are briefly reviewed. A conjecture based on vibrational stabilization concepts is then posed
