Abstract
Communication functions are introduced for the description of distributed protocols and distributed problem-solving techniques. The functions are used to specify a node-selection algorithm that assigns subproblems to the most suitable group of nodes in a distributed problem-solving network. The suitability is based on quantitative measurements and experience of former interactions
