Abstract :
IHS is a 2-year collaborative project under the EUREKA umbrella, whose purpose is to define a European standard by which domestic appliances may be interconnected via a common bus network. Seven leading companies are involved, namely Thorn-EMI, GEC, Mullard, Philips, Siemens, Electrolux and Thompson. These companies together hold a substantial proportion of the European market for domestic electrical equipment and have the combined strength to set standards. This paper presents a brief overview of the work so far and describes some envisaged applications
