Abstract :
Arc flash is one of the hazards that affect worker safety. This paper discusses the great strides that have been made in recent years in quantifying the effects of arcing faults on humans and in quantifying the thermal energy that can be released for various circuit parameters. In addition, electrical system design alternatives, with emphasis on overcurrent protective device characteristics that may reduce the arc flash hazard is discussed.
