Abstract :
Solar Panel has its wide use starting from a simple 5 W diode lamp to a few kW ac drives. A solar panel with a battery and a charge controller and other auxiliary devices like dc to ac converters constitute a Solar Home System (SHS). The charge controller also known as solar panel voltage regulator, which is used to monitor and regulate the charging of the battery and to initiate alarms and disconnection of load in the event of fault. To optimize the use of solar panel output power, the components like battery, charge controller and DC to AC converter should be designed to operate at their respective maximum efficiencies. To ensure operation of these components at the maximum efficiency, a reliable and efficient Solar Panel Energy Measurement System (SEMS) has to be designed. In this paper, an efficient solar panel energy measurement system has been designed, implemented and tested with a solar system and found to be working within 2.5% error limit.
