Abstract :
In order to reach the ambitious goal of a repeaterless 2.048-Mbit/s transmission to any subscriber for ISDN network access, several theoretical and practical investigations as well as a large number of measurements were performed on cables with bundle structure. All these investigations led finally to a highly efficient variant of a four-wire quaternary-coded 2.048-Mbit/s line system. This version has been realized for the Research Institute of DBP Telekom at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. The basic set-up of this experimental four-wire subscriber-line system is presented. Its efficiency is proved by some experimental results obtained under quasi-operational conditions
