Abstract
The first generation Inmarsat satellite spectrum monitoring system has, too date, supported the network operations effectively under most conditions. With continuing traffic growth and the introduction of new Inmarsat standards the demand on accuracy/flexibility of the monitoring system is increasing. Inmarsat is in the process of introducing a second generation of satellite spectrum monitoring system and complementing it with its recently developed in-orbit test facility. The system will be capable of monitoring transmissions of all the operational satellites in Inmarsat´s global mobile communication network from its Network Control Centre situated in London. The authors summarize the main features of the existing facility and introduce the concept of the proposed second generation satellite spectrum monitoring system
