Abstract :
The paper outlines the heritage and the technical architecture of next generation telematics systems for driving systems and investigates potential applications. Then, looking at telematics from the repair and maintenance perspective, explores how this new technology changes the way existing services operate. From this, we identify the need for common open standards solutions to share information between application service providers. We then briefly discuss the main research and development activity in this area and its importance to successful telematics deployment
