Abstract
In this work we study the interferometric behavior of polymeric ultra-thin coatings fabricated by the Layer-by-Layer Electrostatic Self-Assembly (LbL) technique at the end of cleaved optical fibers. The study of such FPI structures is very important for sensing applications as far as the LbL fabrication technique allows to tailor the properties of the optical cavity trough a smart design. The experimental data held well with the simulations. Finally pH sensors were successfully fabricated. The interferometric nature of these sensors improve significantly the sensitivity and the robustness of these kind of sensors.
