  • Abstract
In order to develop a basic understanding of the interaction of an ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulse with a conducting body of revolution (BOR), one must accurately compute the resulting induced currents. The general problem considered here is the computation of the induced currents on a conducting BOR which contains an aperture on one end and an electrically thin circumferential slot of variable conductivity. The specific geometry of interest is a simplified missile structure. The incident electromagnetic wave is assumed to be a temporally-impulsive plane wave which is transverse magnetic (TM) to the BOR axis. The axial aperture electric field impulse response is given for several angles of incidence. The dominant resonances in the aperture electric field are noted and the currents which produces these resonances are shown for various slot conductivities. The variation of the aperture electric field is also shown at the dominant resonances as a function of conductivity
