Abstract
The restoration of cultural heritage is an important aspect of the preservation of cultural heritage. Noh is a traditional Japanese dramatic art and the ancient Noh mask is an important cultural heritage. In this paper, a technique for restoring the color of ancient Noh masks is introduced. The process involves measurement of the mesh and color of the mask, followed by initial calculation of color variation on the 3D (dimension) surface of the Noh mask by reference to the surface normal. Then the 2D texture is extracted from the 3D surface of Noh mask and the original colors of the mask are then restored using a digital algorithm. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated by the illustrations of the results obtained
