Abstract
A consistent small signal theory is developed for the single mode laser rate equations with a multicarrier modulating current. Predictions of intermodulation distortion are compared with direct numerical computations to substantiate the theory and establish its range of validity. Techniques for deriving laser parameters values from physically convenient measurements on devices are considered
