Abstract
We propose to apply the two-step search scheme with linear search based second step (TSS-LS) which improves the conventional two-step search scheme with bit reversal search based second step (TSS-BS), for rapid and reliable acquisition of noncoherent ultra wide band (UWB) signals in multipath channels. The proposed noncoherent TSS-LS employing simple energy window banks utilizes two different thresholds and search windows to achieve fast signal acquisition, and adopts the linear search algorithm for the second step to obtain reliable bit error rate (BER) performance. Simulation results in IEEE 802.15.4a UWB channel model reveal that the proposed TSS-LS provides quite good BER performances comparable to the ideal noncoherent UWB system with the perfect synchronization, as well as rapid signal acquisition
