  • Abstract
Micro structured planar gradient coils have been developed for a mobile magnetic resonance imaging device intended to analyze single biological cells. These flexible multilayer gold coils, based on a polyimide substrate, have a dimension of 13.2 mm times 13.7 mm. They have been tested applying a constant current of 250 mA for 48 h without showing any damages. Their magnetic fields were optimized using analytical simulations. First measurements are in good agreement with the calculated results. Within an area of 2 mm times 2 mm at a distance of 2 mm, they generate a magnetic field gradient of more than 200 mT/m/A with a deviation of plusmn7%.
