Abstract
The authors propose the use of a sequential detection scheme for the combined equaliser/decoder trellis. They deal with the generalised stack algorithm (GSA). They investigate the GSA for trellis coded modulation data signals and compare it with the reduced state sequence estimator (RSSE) method. For the simulations, Ungerboeck codes were used. The aim of the study was to examine data transmission over typical band limited telephone channels having passband responses between 300 and 3400 Hz
