Abstract
The proposed `generic´, or flexible radio system architecture comprises of the transceiver unit which handles the interface of the base-band data to the communications medium, and the controller unit, realised by a computer integrated with DSP devices. Since the transceiver units are commercially available the only requisite for this type of terminal architecture is the availability of a remote control and audio interface. The DSP device perform all of the dedicated signal processing operations, such as adaptive modem implementation, error control coding and real-time channel evaluation
