Abstract :
In the last few years, wireless mesh networks (WMNs) become a one of the most promising technology for broadband wireless access. These networks provide multi-hop transmissions between nodes. In multi-hop networks the total network performance decreases with increasing number of nodes and hops. To increase the total network performance, each mesh node is equipped with multiple radio interfaces which operate on a distinct frequency channels. The IEEE 802.11 specification provides multiple orthogonal channels (non-overlapping), which can be used simultaneously. This paper presents a new centralized channel assignment concept called first random channel assignment algorithm (FRCA). This algorithm efficiently utilizes multiple radio interfaces to achieve improvement of the network performance. We created simulation model in NS-2 simulator and simulation results of our channel assignment algorithm was compared with some other algorithms.
