  • Abstract
Oversampling data converters have emerged in recent years as the most feasible solution to high resolution signal conversion. These converters have one major disadvantage over conventional data converters: They require large decimation and/or interpolation filters. Such filters demand significant silicon area and dissipate power. Oversampling data converters are particularly attractive in applications where the digital filtering can be reduced or eliminated. Modulators for data transmission represent such an application. This paper presents a new implementation which uses a combination of direct digital synthesis and oversampled noise shaping. The new solution requires little silicon area has a low power dissipation while being simple to program
