Abstract
This paper attempts to describe the extent of mechanization in forestry in Sweden and Japan today and the environmental problems caused by the methods and machinery used. How robotics can be used to solve these problems are explained and some applications are suggested. An annotated bibliography on robotics research for forestry applications is also included
