Abstract
A fibre-optic sensor based on differential optical absorption spectroscopy was developed to operate within exhaust environments and to monitor several exhaust gases. Cross sensitivity issues between each of the gases in the UV region were realised and ratiometric separation techniques were developed reduce the sensor´s susceptibility to these interferences. Experimental results describing the calibration of the sensor against a commercial analyser and tests documenting the sensor´s operating capabilities within the exhaust of an engine are presented.
