  • Abstract
This paper considers estimation of the bit error rate of an asynchronous coded direct-sequence code division multiple access (CDMA) in a Rayleigh fading wireless radio communications channel. Due to system complexity, the performance of CDMA systems in such an environment is difficult to assess analytically without making restrictive assumptions. Importance sampling (IS) is a variance reduction technique which can significantly reduce the computation required by Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. We describe the basic principles employed in applying IS to coded CDMA in a Rayleigh fading wireless channel. In particular, we illustrate the use of IS as a computationally efficient and accurate tool for computer-aided design and analysis of such communication systems
