  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The remote exposure reactor design reported previously used uncooled flat panels made of printed circuit board material. A rise in panel temperature and heating of the airflow limited the duration of operation of the RER to 25 seconds. We have redesigned the RER with water-cooled electrodes, and a more sophisticated gas flow system, which now allow us to operate the RER configuration indefinitely. Active species in the airflow can either be recirculated to build up their concentration, or used in a single-pass mode like a leaf blower to sterilize surfaces with entrained active species, details of the redesign and examples of sterilization of more resistant microorganisms will be used to illustrate the effectiveness of the RER.
