Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The state-of-the-art of gas and vacuum switches is summarized and compared. The switches discussed include: gas and vacuum spark gaps, thyratrons, pseudo spark switches, ignitrons. Special consideration is given to: repetition rate, lifetime, ultra fast (sub nanosecond) switching.
