Abstract
We introduce a novel macrodiversity scheme for wireless cellular systems, multiply-detected macrodiversity (MDM), in which all the received versions of a mobile´s signal are used to maximize the probability of a correct decision. The MDM performance in fading conditions shows significant improvement; e.g., for a channel occupancy above 0.2, the BER is decreased by two to five orders of magnitude throughout 50% to 90% of cell coverage area. We consider the co-channel interference resulting from the six closest interferers (referred to as interfering cells)
