Abstract
Decisions and actions taken before a new technology gets introduced into the organization are critical to the new technology adoption and success. Unfortunately, this is a neglected research area. Most of the research on technology adoption and success has concentrated on the post-introduction rather than pre-introduction phase. The aim of this paper is to suggest a barrier-based model aimed at assessing the value of new information and communication technologies (ICT) support, before the new technology actually gets introduced into the workplace. The model distinguishes between freedom, opportunity, convenience and feature new ICT based on its potential value to prospective users. In addition the paper translates the model into an approach for analyzing the potential value of mobile information and communication (M-ICT) support for the workforce.
