Abstract :
The paper proposes a framework for standardizing the delivery of multimedia services on fiber-coax cable. The framework described enables plug and play consumer appliances to be freely attached to the network. The standardization of digital services on HFC (hybrid fiber-coax) to the home will take place over the next two to four years (1994-98). Contributions to the standards will come from a wide variety of sources including; academia, technology trials, industry deployments, and the formal standards setting process. The framework proposed encompasses most of the complexity of the problem
