  • Abstract
This paper addresses control architectures and associated access mechanisms relevant to providing integrated ATM-based services over a hybrid fiber-and-coaxial shared-channel access network. Emerging high-bandwidth interactive applications are considered that require throughputs in the range of a few megabits per second per subscriber for mixes of voice, data, video, image, or multimedia traffic. A shared-channel access to an upstream channel with dynamic bandwidth allocation is attractive in order to gain efficiency in bandwidth usage and flexibility in subscriber bandwidth allocation
