Abstract :
Distribution network utilities are becoming more cognizant on the importance of their capability to improve the condition and reliability of their network system. A combination of appropriate diagnostic testings are sought after for condition monitoring and assessment. Selection of the most appropriate diagnostic system between the one that are already developed and practiced and others that are promising but still in development is not an easy task to achieve. The performance of PILC cable is crucial in terms of supply reliability as its total length is still significant in the network. Therefore, monitoring the condition of these cables is considered very important and has to be looked into seriously. The main purpose of the testing is to assess the capabilities of the technologies and to develop knowledge on interpretation of the results obtained. The results from the tests conducted are analysed to evaluate the condition of the cable under test.
