Abstract
This paper describes the design of the series connection of integrated gate commutated thyristors (IGCTs) for a 6 kV drive using RC-snubbers. The dynamic and static voltage balancing is analysed in detail and experimental results are given. It is shown that a good voltage balancing can be achieved by small RC-snubbers due to the fast switching IGCTs
