Abstract :
This paper presents optimal HARQ procedures for reverse link of next generation wireless communication systems. Different criteria are proposed for different classes of services, including the delay-intolerant ones. For delay-tolerant services the IR (incremental redundancy) gain is fully exploited and the gain brought by retransmissions are evident. For delay-intolerant services the ratio of their interference to their throughput is minimized while the IR gain is relatively small and less retransmissions are preferred to keep delay acceptable.
