  • Abstract
Human health and interdisciplinary cross-development have brought into the birth of Health Engineering, while ageing problem and health-care system reform in China are calling for its rapid development. As an inter-discipline of biology, medicine and engineering, Health Engineering will focus on the R&D of principles, methods and technologies related to human health. One of the most concerned research areas is how to lower the cost of health-care covering 1.3 billion Chinese and how to improve the health of different age groups. Multi-core CPU technologies can help people acquire and process bio-information in parallel, which is more cost-effective and efficient compared to the usual serial process in single-core CPUs. Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT) developed a distributed health-care system and released a multifunctional medical bed last year. We are working on a new mobile medical equipment, which targets the larger and larger population of migrating workers in China. Meanwhile, we are doing research on low-cost solutions for community, home and personal health-care. Besides, SIAT is progressing on new principles and methods of bio-information acquisition related to cardiac and vascular diseases. We hope we could promote the rapid development in domestic and overseas Health Engineering area through the wide correspond and cooperation of the related experts.
