Abstract :
An extensive series of propagation field trials has been undertaken within two rural areas of NW England. Analysis of the measured signal envelope data over a small area shows that the Rician PDF consistently provides a more accurate model than the Rayleigh, Nakagami and Weibull distributions. This finding has been observed in both discrete terrain environments (towns, villages, woodland etc.) and over aggregate rural routes. The second order statistics of the measured fast-fading signal have also been computed and compared with theoretical values obtained by assuming a Rayleigh distributed signal
